No fear. No fear. NO FEAR!
This is the Happy Hat that I, a neophyte who just learned what 2tog means, will be knitting for Made By Hand. The tassles look dangerous, as does the “pinching” business. But it’s a rectangle with no increasing/decreasing/magic. And that is the key part.
I hope I don’t lose an eye in the process.
That hat does look like quite a lot of fun. You should get some special knitting goggles and maybe a helmet. Some people even wear knee pads while knitting, but I never could figure out why.
Good luck with the project!

Thanks for the encouragement and the safety tips, firefly. By the end, I’ll be wearing knitting goggles to keep the sparks from flyin’ into my eyes.
Yeah, right.

Go for it! Looks like a good pattern. You can find some good seaming tutorials here: http://www.learn2knit.co.uk/knitting/joining.php and here: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring04/mattress.html , for when you get to the seams!
So – who gets the point for your knitting conversion? We keep score, you know.

Looks like a good first project! Welcome to the knit-side.

Hey, thanks Anna for the seaming tutorials. I’ll definitely need them at the end of it, because I haven’t a clue on that.
And who scores the point for sucking me into the knitting side of the force? It’s hard to say. I’ll officially call it a “mob effort,” but I’ll give you, firefly, and kisnit some extra credit for 1) giving me a reason to do it and 2) spreading enough enthusiasm to make me want to give the needles a second chance.
